Symbolic drawing, the combination of its figures and its interpretation create a narrative. In this case, the duality between two antagonistic female characters (wet and prostitute), who share territory within an orchard. Currently This piece belongs to the collection of the Museum of the Schools of Luzon.
The idea was born from imagining a common scenario, a shared context, for two personalities that are in coexistence, and that, nevertheless, defend and lead forms of life that are antipodal in their nature. This coexistence of opposing archetypes is possible in that context.
One of those characters is La Monja. Which represents a spiritual life. The other character is La Puta. That represents a carnal life.
The context is a Garden. It is an anthropized space, where a collection of botanical species has been arranged, among other purposes, for contemplation. This place has a moment of splendor, in which you can also enjoy its fruits, which usually correspond to the flowering season.
Flowers have traditionally been associated with the feminine, creating correspondences with some of the common properties attributed to it, namely: ephemeral, soft, perfumed, delicate, etc….
At the same time, a flower is a reproductive instrument, containing pollen. Aspect that is also susceptible to be interpreted as a parallel to the pretense of the seduction, conquest and gestation processes.
Therefore, "The flowers of a garden", is in this case precisely the metaphor that inspires the matching game. The Nun is one of the "flowers" in the garden, And in the same way, the Whore is another of the "flowers." Both are the flowers that adorn and beautify the garden. And as happens in all gardens, there are "flowers" with more or less erotic content. Some more exuberant and others more discreet.
The transcendence of the symbolism of the "Garden" extends to the concept of a "female market" where the visitor to that garden-market can go and choose and choose the "flower" that he likes the most.
It should be noted that the drawing of the Garden forms a “hidden figure”. The silhouette or contour is reminiscent of a Flowerpot. The Flowerpot being a typical element or object of any garden.
