This painting was inspired by a small painting by GB Tiepolo called "The Virgin with the Six Saints", as well as a children's story called Elmer the Elephant. There is a beautiful passage where Elmer describes that the act of giving is infinite:
“But Elmer,” said an Elephant, “you gave your colors to the rainbow. How can you have them? "Elmer chuckled," Some things you can give and give and not lose any. Things like happiness or love or my colors. ” I decided to make the diptych of painting play with the idea of separation and union. Again, I wanted to emphasize the notion of the fleeting moment by incorporating the rainbow and a hummingbird to the left of the composition.
