The IOM (International Organization for Migration) reports that 16.724 migrants and refugees have entered Europe by sea during almost four months of 2020, an increase of 16% compared to the 14.381 who arrived during the same period of the year past. Almost half of all arrivals have been to Greece, the busiest destination this year. The deaths registered on the three main routes of the Mediterranean Sea until 22 April amount to 256 men, women and children, compared with 425 registered in this same period in 2019 (see the graph below).
