Summary of the original work
Sizes: 120 cm wide x 80 cm high.
Year: 2014
For several years, Fernando Quintanilla observes how different chemical compounds interfere, how they react with each other. "The elements are like men and women, but without the restrictions that exist in the human brain. They only know the law of nature. They unite with the impulse of instinct, [...] attract each other and both create something new. "As he himself explains, it is a 'spontaneous' work, observing how, from chemical elements (chlorine, aniline, chrome) , iron ...), colors and textures are generated.
The result is impressive and goes beyond the traditional division between abstraction and figuration.
Metallic blues melt with greens, ochres, grays, reds ... of these infinite nuances, deep perspectives and rusty landscapes are born. With much poetry, Quintanilla incorporates human or animal silhouettes that seem to be blurred, absorbed by matter. The visual effects obtained by the intuitive combination of chemical compounds paradoxically remind the four elements of the world: earth, water, air and fire.
This sensitivity of matter awakens a strange and timeless sensation. It seems that the paintings have lived many years, that time has eaten them. Thanks to his patience, Quintanilla produces in some of his works an atmosphere similar to that of the maritime paintings of the English pre-impressionist William Turner or of the Belgian expressionist Constant Permeke.
Like an isolated scientist in his laboratory or an alchemist of post-modern times, Quintanilla found an original and his own technique that allows him to create an undefined world, at the intersection between ceramics, engraving, watercolor and still, the result of solitary experimentation and tenacious."
