Summary of the original work
Dimensions 130 cm wide x 50 cm high.
Year: 2012
MAREAS X. Tribute to Virginia Wolf, author of "The waves", is part of the exhibition project "Great tides, small swells", presented by the artist and art historian Pepa García Pardo in the text "Sew and paint or the joy of shipwreck".
The sea has been a recurring motif in art and, above all, in painting since ancient times. But the navy only began to become a genre towards the end of the Middle Ages, and had a special development in Europe between the 17th and 19th centuries. This composition, together with the others in the series, is the result of an inevitably current interpretation of this tradition, rehearsing in this case the explicit link with a literary work of the twentieth century.
