Wedge-tailed Eagles: Learning to fly show the two eagles we watched grow up from one-week-old chicks to flying teenagers. "Down by the eagle's nest" is our special place, with a river between us, a waterfall and a mountain edge it was an amazing experience to photograph these magnificent birds so named for the shape of their tails over a period of months. We learned a lot, what they ate for Sunday breakfast- cockatoo, how the weather affects them- Mom holds her wings over them, how they fragile they are when their food supply is altered through man from kangaroo culls, to rabbit poisoning, to housing development , how sharp their eyes were, how big their feet are and how they like to sunbathe with those feet in the air. Something special for everyone to experience even if just once in their lifetime. These same Eagles are sometimes seen flying outside our kitchen window, the smaller birds go quiet when this happens, look skywards and then run for cover under a tree. It is nice to know they are there still. I have tried to capture some of this with the winter mist in this artwork.

      Summary

This is one artwork from an ongoing series of artworks depicting Australian birds that are photographed by husband and wife Steven and Susan Willemse mostly around Canberra, Australia's Capital city.
Both wild and aviculture birds are photographed as the first Australian birds seen by the artist were in Africa with the family pet cockatiel and later two cockatoos that she grew to know and love so well.
The artist, Susan, uses acrylic paints and airbrush on stretched canvases to create these artworks and all are signed in pencil with the year of production at the back of the canvas. They are then framed in natural floating frames with hard backs for added protection, some frames being hand-crafted from Victorian Ash to wood sourced in Australia making them one of a kind original and authentic artworks, thus all are issued with Certificates of Authenticity supplied by the artist They can be shipped after packing, with warranties at cost worldwide.
What makes these artworks unique is that they were created using a lifetime of experimentation that includes art education in high school in different mediums, the study of cells under the microscope as a medical scientist where color, texture, shape, size, pattern and light were Visually studied - work that the artist did for 31 years to prevent and diagnose cancer and that was both an art and a science, and the painting of a car to learn airbrushing technique, IT and photography that enables the accurate portrayal of these birds and of course a love of birds.
Susan's aim is an artist is to share these beautiful birds to create mindfulness, smiles, wellness and health, social communication and so much more as she believes that art is healing, it is beneficial to mind and body and has a place in society as well . It was indeed that art that heal CRPS or severe pain in 2016 that led to the study of neuroscience and positive psychology and eventually to create a creative business in 2017 after Australia considered the prevention of cervical cancer not cost effective in tried and tested means the same year. Susan welcome you to enjoy these birds as she does to create a better and more caring world to live in, one where all people and animals are valued for she has witnessed greed and sadness too in her life. May everyone have Hope is her motto now!
