Summary of the original work
Year: 2018
From the series Historias de historias
Hand-printed woodcut on 250 g Bristol paper
impregnation 60 x 90 cm
paper: 70 x 100 cm
Edition of 6 copies; 2 author tests They say that the eyes are the mirror of the soul, but not only the eyes.
Each person has a story to tell and a story that tells about the body, the face and the eyes. Most of the people I portray in this series I do not know at all, they are people who when they see them tell me a story that perhaps is not real. They convey to me an emotion that I try to share with the viewer, knowing and counting that surely everyone who contemplates them will be told something different, they will tell another story.
They are portraits of common people in my country, neither characters nor stereotypes of Cubanness, which with woodcut as a technique to represent them has the advantage of its graphic and simple force that does not distract in subtleties and leaves us alone in front of each face and its history. She is the daughter of Yemayá, a practitioner of one of the most popular Afro-Cuban religions in Cuba.
