Biography: Self-taught, vocational and tireless.
As a child I always had close contact with wood, my father made wooden cages at home as a hobby and he always gave me some easy task like sanding, it seemed fun to me, I liked it. As a teenager I worked for a couple of summers as an apprentice in a carpentry shop where, secretly from the owner and with the help of a carpenter whom I helped in his work, at times we would do together any fantasy that occurred to me with the growth. These were my first contacts with this noble material but due to circumstances, life took me in other directions.
During all those years without contact with wood, that thorn remained stuck in me that I could not remove for a long time. A chef by profession, my work allowed me to travel and live in different places.
In 2006, an epiphytic plant from the bromeliaceae family called thilandsia came into my hands. I bought a batch of this plant that I fell in love with and began to work with it in combination with different organic materials: cork, bamboo, roots and trunks that I found both on the coast and in the mountains. 18 years have passed since this and today I have a curious collection of this plant.
At the beginning I practically did not modify the state of the wood to which I attached the thilandsias, but over the years I began to play and shape this material.
In 2019 I returned to my town with the purpose of spending time with my elderly mother. One day walking along the banks of the Guadiana River I found a wooden log with sinuous shapes and I decided to take it home where I began to eliminate all the areas that were in poor condition and after a while working on it I liked the result. This piece was the beginning of a new stage where I met again with wood, which today is my passion where I spend part of my time.
Collecting roots and trunks from the river that apparently have no use due to the poor condition in which they are found, for me is something wonderful and more than wonderful, I would say miraculous. Give them a second chance by bringing to light all the life they still have where each of these pieces silently keep their passage through life and with it their story.
