I love sculpture, because of the freedom that doing your own work brings. I am free to choose the path and the way I walk it. It has its difficulties and obstacles, but the satisfaction that a good result produces is very gratifying.
As Antonio Machado said: "Walker there is no path, the path is made by walking..." I learned to work the mud as I learned to swim, swimming. I started in the mud with Emilia Guimerans in a Nigrán workshop and from there I am self-taught, I learn by trying and experimenting. Working with clay and ceramics gives me tranquility, peace, freedom of thought, self-criticism... For me, each job is different, as are the waves that break on the seashore, unexpected, different... you never get tired of watching them during hours. Valuing the beauty of an original work is valuing the soul of the artist, his moment, the mind-matter union. The moment of creation is unique and unrepeatable, subsequent copies lack the magic of this moment... As the human being and the rest of the living beings are unique and different, I like to make unique pieces, unique moments. When I'm making a piece, I start with an idea but, as I progress, it's the piece that tells me what it needs, that's why I can't make a second equal piece by hand... this second piece sends me down a path different. If the piece breaks there is no other, I do not work with molds, only the photograph remains. Ceramics in particular is magic, shapes and colors emerge. It is a very wide field and there is so much to explore. I adore the harmony of its curves of a sculpture, being able to contemplate it in all its angles, the rubbing of the fingers on the piece. The sense of touch is sublime... |
