My Oz ”Oil on canvas 60x73cm (This work can be sold framed as a figure in one of the photos)
A few months ago I began to paint another version of the story of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" adapted to the present, when everything around us seemed to be destroyed. I connect and disconnect from that painting at the same speed that my emotions change.
As I have read, the tale is a direct allegory of the political and economic struggle between supporters of the gold standard and those of bimetallism in the United States in the late XNUMXth century. The road of yellow bricks is the false promise of gold, but ... I am left with this other analysis of the symbolism of the work that is equally valid and much more spiritual with which I feel more identified:
"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" symbolizes the ideal that each of the parts of our psyche, mind (Scarecrow), emotions (Tin Woodman) and physique (Lion), be wise enough to rule their own plane and be in control. service. Dorothy, as a soul, has commanded the expedition uniting them all. In his experience he has managed to master the three bodies and use them in a correct way.
In the children's story, the allegory is beautifully presented in a part of the story, which makes us understand that the world as we know it is nothing more than an illusion perpetrated by magicians who, through tricks of three to the fourth and the imposition of colored glasses, make us swallow with a partial and interested. Magicians who are powerful but cannot do much more than ventriloquist tricks, lighting, and illusionism. It is not true magic, it is something closer to conditioning.
Don't you feel identified?
I think I am not the only one who has felt like Dorothy for months: wanting to return home, to the old normality or what is the same: to regain control.
In all this time I have always had the feeling of being ripped off and terribly conditioned. I have never thought to be close to back to normal. On the contrary, I have been much more tempted to give in to the situation and simply isolate myself under a blanket until this happens. Luckily I have a family that depends and pulls me in equal parts for which I put on some ruby shoes and bump them together as many times as necessary until I get everyone to return to where we were.
