I am a self taught artist, living in the sunny south east of Ireland. I paint in watercolor and oil, using only artist quality paints, paper and linen. I have exhibited and sold watercolors at the prestigious RWS (Royal Watercolor Society) London, in the past.
My influences are great artists of the past, Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, Singer Sargent, Monet and others. I love the work of current artists, Trevor Chamberlain, Charles Reid, David Curtis, Kevin Macpherson, Arthur Maderson to, name but a few. Recently I have admired American artists Ann Gale and Joshua Meyer. My own style in watercolor is bold, loose and impressionistic, with the intention of getting the painting completed in one wash, not possible, but here is hoping. With my oil painting, a palette knife is my favorite tool. All subjects interest me but particularly genre scenes, the beach and figurative. Texture, color and impasto is what I aim for with my oil painting works. I hope that you enjoy the site. Thank you. Joe |
